Calcium Chloride Snow Melters: An Efficient Solution for Winter Snow Removal

Every winter, snow accumulation and ice formation become a "stubborn problem" that affects transportation and public safety. The thick layers of snow bring great inconvenience to people's travel. In order to effectively remove snow and ensure the smoothness and safety of roads, calcium chloride snow melters have emerged as an essential snow removal tool in winter.

  1. Calcium chloride (CaCl₂) is an inorganic compound with strong hygroscopicity. When it comes into contact with snow and ice, it dissolves rapidly and absorbs heat from the surrounding environment, lowering the melting point of the snow and ice.
  2. The granular form of calcium chloride snow melters (usually 2 - 5mm particles) is also convenient for storage, transportation, and spreading. The granular snow melter can cover the surface of snow and ice more evenly during the spreading process, making full contact with the snow and ice, and thus more effectively exerting its snow-melting function. Moreover, this granular form is less likely to fly around during spreading, reducing pollution to the surrounding environment and air.
  3.  Usage Tips: Increase Efficiency and Reduce Waste
  • Timing of Spreading: It is best to spread the snow melter in advance when the snowfall reaches 2 - 3cm. By utilizing the "anti-freezing" characteristic of calcium chloride, it can prevent the snow from freezing and sticking to the ground, making subsequent cleaning easier.
  • Dosage Control: Adjust the dosage according to the thickness of the snow. For snow less than 5cm, use 20 - 30g per square meter; for snow between 5 - 10cm, use 30 - 50g. Avoid excessive use to prevent increased costs and corrosion risks.
  • Storage Precautions: Calcium chloride is highly hygroscopic and should be stored in a sealed container in a dry and ventilated warehouse to avoid moisture and caking.
